I used to have a lot of problems shaving my legs, they got irritated so easily. But now I shave at the end of the shower, so the hair is already very soft and able to be shaved easier. Also instead of shaving creams and lotions which really used to irritate my skin I read somewhere about using regular conditioner and it absolutely works! So I shave with Suave lavander conditioner at the end of my showers and I shave going down first to get most of teh hair, and then in spots that still feel a little rough I shave upwards just in small sections, not the whole leg. Shaving up makes you much much more prone to getting ingrown hairs.

I'm talking about my legs here, but if my hair has gotten longer than normal I shave downward first, because it doesn't clog the razor as much, then I shave upward (or against the hair growth) for a closer shave.
If my skin seems to be more sensitive than normal, then I will just shave downward, as shaving upward is more harsh on the skin and hair follicles bc it's closer to the skin and normally any inflamed follicles are facing down, if I shave upward, I'm more likely to pull at the inflamed follicle.
But most of the time I don't have either one of these issues, so I shave upward (against the hairgrowth) for a closer shave.

Why shave when you can wax? It costs more but is definitely worth the money! That way, you can pull the hair out at the root; and, when it grows back, it doesn't become increasingly thicker and coarser. The smoothless also lasts longer, and you don't see stubble in just a day or too, as with shaving :)

I shave up on my face (beard, sideburns, moustache area, etc). I find that if I shave down, my shave isn't as close. Shaving upwards, I am shaving against the grain. I hear it's a big "no no" to shave against the grain (causing possible ingrown hairs), but I have had no problems for years. So there you have it. I have imparted my useless knowledge to yet another person. LOL!

I shave opposite the direction the hair grows, to get it as short as possible...so I end up doing both, depending on what area I'm shaving and which direction the hairs are in...sometimes even some sideways shaving is needed, to get it cut close.

I do shave up sometimes but you are supposed to shave down according to the direction of hair growth. I think if you start shaving upward it will be harder to shave in the direction of growth (because there might still be a slight stubble)

If I'm shaving my legs I shave up since the hair grows down... I shave my armpits in every direction... and with my bikini line I shave down and then up and side to side to make sure it's completely smooth.

It depends on the hair growth and it's silly pattern. Armpits are sometimes the hardest, as some hair grows this way and some that, so I usually shave up down AND to the side. This cures it!

Depends on where you´re shaving. But I always shave up. If possible, I wax. It lasts longer!

In the direction the hair is growing which for me is typically down. I seem to get more ingrown whiskers when I shave up.
