They are never going to give birth to 6 calfs at once, are they? Not like pigs or dogs who have big litters and need all those teats. So why 6 on a cow?

Normally only 4 teats work to give milk on a cow's udder. Cows do sometimes have twins. I assume the number four is equivalent to a human woman having two. One for using immediately and one as a back up or drinking from when the first is empty.
