Not only can they swim but they enjoy it too. A pig is unable to sweat so in order to cool down they need mud or better yet water to swim in. Pigs are very smart and believe it or not they try to be clean, its the humans that have made them dirt pigs. Also pigs and hogs are the same.

Oh yes....

Funniest sight I've ever seen is a pig swimming across a lake in the New Forest...

There was definitely something better on the other side!!!!!!

Allegedly they have a tendency to cut their own throats with their front hooves if they try. Like all animals they have a swimming instinct, and I expect young pigs would be able to do it.

I saw a piglet in a pool once (it was keeping warm coz its mother had rejected it). It was kicking its legs like a dog does but it was also in a life jacket. That doesn't help atall does it?

they sure can - in fact ALL animals have the ability to swim - lots of em just never choose to do so!
