A destructive program that masquerades as a benign application. Unlike viruses, Trojan horses do not replicate themselves but they can be just as destructive. One of the most insidious types of Trojan horse is a program that claims to rid your computer of viruses but instead introduces viruses onto your computer.
The term comes from the a Greek story of the Trojan War, in which the Greeks give a giant wooden horse to their foes, the Trojans, ostensibly as a peace offering. But after the Trojans drag the horse inside their city walls, Greek soldiers sneak out of the horse's hollow belly and open the city gates, allowing their compatriots to pour in and capture Troy.

The Difference Between a Virus, Worm and Trojan Horse

1worm
(1) A program or algorithm that replicates itself over a computer network and usually performs malicious actions, such as using up the computer's resources and possibly shutting the system down. Also see virus.
Also see The Difference Between a Virus, Worm and Trojan Horse in the Did You Know? section of Webopedia.

(2) When used in all capital letters, WORM is an acronym for for write once, read many, an optical disk technology that allows you to write data onto a disk just once. After that, the data is permanent and can be read any number of times.

Unlike CD-ROMs, there is no single standard for WORM disks, which means that they can only be read by the same type of drive that wrote them. This has hampered their acceptance, although they have found a niche market as an archival media.

WORM is also called CD-R.

A program or piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your wishes. Viruses can also replicate themselves. All computer viruses are manmade. A simple virus that can make a copy of itself over and over again is relatively easy to produce. Even such a simple virus is dangerous because it will quickly use all available memory and bring the system to a halt. An even more dangerous type of virus is one capable of transmitting itself across networks and bypassing security systems.
Since 1987, when a virus infected ARPANET, a large network used by the Defense Department and many universities, many antivirus programs have become available. These programs periodically check your computer system for the best-known types of viruses.

Some people distinguish between general viruses and worms. A worm is a special type of virus that can replicate itself and use memory, but cannot attach itself to other programs.

there are so many types of trojan... i use two virus protectors... i use spyware doctor and VCOM's System Suite 6.. one is better at scanning and blocking and the other has a really good repair and maint program in it...

As far as consequences? I had to totally reset my puter from scratch because my son went to a very liberal site and resulted in a trojan which my norton antivirus missed.. it was like taking over my computer to the point that it took 5 min just to log into a site... hope this helped

Trojan refers to a virus or worm that was let into your computer by seemingly innocent means. A trojan can destroy many parts of your computer if not quarantined and destroyed. The name refers to the famous Trojan Horse which was delivered into battle seemingly as a gift but was full of warriors.... danger in disguise.

Hi, trojan is a disgusting and infamous kind of virus. perhaps you can try Norton and Mcafee to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar, which can disable the virus, becasue the virus can only run on IE.

firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and spyware, adware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

In this context, Trojan is like the Trojan Horse, it may come in an email, or a picture, but when you open it, it releases a computer virus.
