I just got the front brakes replaced on my car. From the shop I drove it 20 miles on the freeway. When I got off and was stopped I noticed they were smoking (not bad, just a little) then I parked and they were still smoking a bit. Is this normal? Is my car safe to drive?

Yes it is totally normal. That is grease on the new pads buring off. It should be done.

Yes its the brake pads braking in. Brakes work off of heat so in order to get them to set properly the very top layer will give off a little smoke as the seat against the rotor. Also if they did not tell you when you picked the car up, make sure you use light stops for the first 500 miles. This will give the brakes time to set properly and work best. Brake early keep lots of room from cars in front so you do not have to do a panic stop.

Might be a possiblity that the shop bled your brakes when they installed them. They might not have cleaned any or all of the brake fluid that might have splattered when they were bleeding your brakes. [Bleeding brakes removes any air pockets/bubbles that may have formed when the brake lines are loosened up to install the new pads]

Agree with all of the above, it is probably normal, but still there is the possibility of a caliper that's locking up. But if the smoking stops, I wouldn't worry about it.

NO
It could catch fire
Get it checked ASAP
They must of made a mistake putting the brakes on or you have a caliper freezeing up
