For example: "x" times "y" or xy; "x" divided by "y" or x/y
2x + 4 = 10 First step is to isolate "x" to one side of the equation
by subtracting 4 from both sides: 2x + 4 - 4 = 10 - 4

2x = 6
Second step is to divide both sides by 2: 2x / 2 = 6 / 2

x = 3
Check your work with the original equation: 2x + 4 = 10
(2 * 3) + 4 = 10
6 + 4 = 10

Lets assume you have two variables "x" and "y". Now you have been given equations and you gotta find what x and y are.
Now though you can guess and probably get one right at times, the best and the common way to solve the whole thing is by the applying the linear equations method.

For example, if we have X and Y, where
1> 2x+y=4 and
2> x-y= -1

Now we have two equations, and we have to find the values for X and Y
I guess being intelligent, you'll get the answer orally! But what if there are massive values given? So what we do here is :

-> we add equations 1 and 2, thus we get,
3x+0y=3
or 3x=3 or x=3/3
x=1,

Now we substitute the value of x in one of the equations,
lets take the first equation,
so 2x+y=4
Substituting the value of X, we get,
2*1+y=4
or 2+y=4
Therefore, Y=4-2 or
y=2.

So, we've got the answer, x=1 and y=2.

-> In the same way, you might at times need to subtract, multiply or even divide equations.
Dont worry, for a genius like you it should be childs play!

I sincerely hope that my explaination helped. If you have any doubts, please feel free to ask me.

When solving a linear equation you use your Order of Operations in reverse, remember PEMDAS? Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction. To isolate the variable you must undo the math in reverse order, first get rid of the addition or subtraction by doing the inverse operation, then get rid of the coeficient by multiplying or dividing. Your math book should list links on the internet where you can go for extra help. Read your textbook.

a few linear equations are:
2x+9=27, 7x+7=8x-6
To solve linear equations remember:
1. if you move term (transpose) it to another side (of '='), subtraction becomes addition, division becomes multiplication and vice versa
2. always simplify your final answer
3. if square root of x = square of y, then x = plus or minus y
