Do you find it offensive when other people refer to the people in your race as: "Oriental"? I'm not but some people say that I look like I am asian and they say, "Oooh, she looks so oriental!" I mean, oriental doesn't seem like a word you should use to describe a person, it should be used to describe a thing.

Yes it's very rude. I live in texas and you can't imagine the ignorance and hatred I experience everyday, and I was raised here in the USA for over 30 years.

I have tried my best to break negative stereotypes of asians but there are too many stereotypes. I have tried to correct people in not saying "oriental" but it's like talking to a wall.

People are just too ignorant and too damn stupid to realize.

Of course it's 1000 times harder for me since I live in Texas.
If you are asian here, you get **** on by mexicans, blacks, and whites because we are considered the "passive" and "weak" race.

Yes it's very offensive to be called "oriental" but after 3 years of battling people here in texas to not be called that, it's exhausting and I end up just ignoring it now. No point in talking to someone that acts like a wall.

I'm not Asian, but my brother's girlfriend is, and he actually had a conversation with our grandmother about this....she called the young lady Oriental, and my brother told her later, that Oriental "refers to rugs, and Asian refers to people".
