I would rather live in the Fort Worth or Arlington area. I have lived all over the US and like living in this area better than any place! Flowermound, Grapevine, Plano and Richardson are good areas outside of Dallas. Cost of living is about the same as most places. Housing is lower than most. Jobs may depend on what type of job you want. If you live in Arlington both Fort Worth and Dallas are close enough to work in. Some parts of town are better to live in than others, just like all cities.

cost of living is pretty reasonable, but you do have to get used to driving ALOT. It is hot in the summer (100 + and little to no rain), but you get used to that. Jobs scene is good, but of course that depends on what you are looking at. Alot of tech still around.

Be very careful to check out schools before you move. You do not want to be in the Dallas school system. There are plenty of subarbs or the mid-cites that have great schools though.

Like any big city, crime is a real issue. Some areas are simply not safe to be in.

Were it me, and I have been here maybe 25 years or so, I would go elsewhere but to each their own.
