Why did this format reverse itself from the older programs (I LOVE LUCY, ETC) where the woman was scattered brain and the husband was the calming factor? Why isn't it half the shows one way and half the show the other?

Networks are trying to be a bit more sensitive to females outlook in society. In doing this more shows have been prompted to look this way, but no one to the time to see the market was overloaded with the same style of characters. Don't worry just like back then a trend that was the norm will be a trend of change. Next, instead of kids being taught life's lessons by adults they'll be teaching them.

Nevermind that, I want to know why the husband is a fat slob and the wife is a hottie: i.e. King of Queens, According to Jim, etc. Where is this happening in real life?

Also the husband is almost always fat and or ugly or just goofy looking when the wife is smokin' hot. Unfortunately I have no good answer to the question.

The other way around (man:smart-woman:stupid) would not be politically correct. Both smart would not be funny. Both stupid would be too much for the average viewer. Although Married with Children pulled it off, I must add...
