The word culture, generally refers to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures that give such activity significance. So we're an activity? What would be a better option if you don't like this one?

I thought this was an odd placement at first, but it also seems to make sense in a way. If people are asking questions about society and the gay community, it is in the right place. If it's a health question, I personally don't think the person's sexual preferences should put it in a different category.

It may also depend upon where you live and how you interact with others in your area.

I believe Gay and Lesbian should be seperated from Bi-sexuals. Being Bi-sexual is making a choice of either/or and being Gay and Lesbian is not. We often get grouped this way on others judgement of being permiscious. I am a very monogamous Lesbian and live my life as a married couple. NOT judging just stating my opinion!!!

It's a pretty good category to put us in, but i agree with Biteme, that we should separate bi-sexuals from gays and lesbians. Its not entirely the same thing. And maybe also separate transgender because its not really the same thing either. I cant really think of any other ones anyway ^.^

Hell, I'm just flattered that they gave us our own section!!! I'm not about to start complaining now. We have enough issues going on in here with the moron creating 5,000 ID's and giving the gay/lesbian section hell without starting on Yahoo about what catagory we fall under.

I thought "culture" was appropriate because informed gay/lesbians refer to "queer culture".

It could go under "relationships"...dating etc. That would be the "equality" category.

I do not think that Yahoo is trying to appear insulting at all by placing this forum under Society and Cultures. While there are other categories this forum could also fit into, I think that this one is as fitting as any.

Sexuality and gender identity-based cultures concern the culture, knowledge, and references shared by members of sexual minorities and/or transgendered people by virtue of their membership in those minorities or their state of being transgendered.

Not all members of a particular sexual minority participate in, or are aware of, the subculture that may be associated with that minority. In addition to simply not knowing that the culture exists, non-participants may be geographically or socially isolated, they may feel stigmatized by the subculture, they may simply dislike it (feeling it is outdated, corrupted, or does not align with their personal taste or style), or they may prefer to affiliate with some other culture or subculture.

I think we should be placed in a different section, since this implies choice - and being LGBT is not a choice. But at least it doesn't say 'lifestyle' which is used on some sites.

I approve of the way it was done. Most internet sections list us that way and I think it makes it easier for everyone to find.

I don't know if its the ideal heading, but I looked at the others and I don't see any that is especially more appealing.
