Honey, how old are you??? My 9 year daughter has the understanding that mayognase (mayonnaise) would not harm an unborn child. I would suggest an experienced family help you with this pregnancy, and read lots of books. Good Luck!!!

Eating the wrong things could have very bad affects on the baby. Some can cause infection or disease. Eating too much of something can also cause problems even if it's not an "avoid when pregnant" food. Eating too little of things can also cause problems. Your diet needs to be balance so that you and the baby both get good amounts of all sorts of things like vitamins and minerals. I don't think the mayonaise will have any affects, but you should definately stay away from it from now on. The one little time probably didn't hurt, but better to be safe then sorry.

As for some of the other answers on here, yes mayonaise can be harmful. It has raw eggs in it and that can cause all sorts of problems but that's only if you eat too much of it.

What's wrong with mayonnaise? I was not aware this was on the "do not eat" list. Don't worry about it. How do people survive the 9 months worrying this much? I'm a mom of 3 and an OB nurse so I think I think what I'm talking about.

Believe me, there are moms on chemo and heroin addicts having babies out there that are perfectly healthy, good Lord a bit of mayonnaise on your sandwich or a few Tylenol for your headache isn't going to hurt anyone, good grief.

During pregnancy some women worry to death and don't want to eat or take *anything* but the minute labor starts it's always these SAME WOMEN that are bellowing, "Give me the epidural! Give me a bolus! I need a c-section! Where's my Percocet, this hurts!" Then before they leave the hospital they get back on their prozac and their ambien (while breastfeeding of course) and later the the pediatricians are nagged to death to give the kids antibiotics for every little ache or pain, they are full of preservatives, sugar, fat and food dyes from all the junk food and kids are taking speed like Ritalin. Doesn't make sense to me.

It all depends on your age and medical history. Obviously, you might be more at risk if you've lost a baby (especially recently) or if you're a bit older than the average mother.

But a little bit probably will not affect your baby. If it were huge scoops of it, everyday, then you may be at risk. But you said it wasn't big amounts.

The risk is in the eggs made, really. If it was cheap, near-best-before-date mayonnaise, I'd ask your doctor about it. But good quality fresher stuff is extremely low-risk.

I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy, I hope all your "baby dreams" come true... My family just found out we're expecting too, my mum. She's in the age-risk area, so we're all being extremely cautious about what she's eating/doing. I won't even let her do some of the housework, and I'm usually one of those slacker children that hardly raise a finger. (I'm 20 and should know better)

Mayo, if store bought is safe. It is homemade that is not because it needs to be made with pasteurized eggs. Soft cheese such as Chamberete (SP), Feta, Brie, and Blue-veined cheese, refrigerated smoked fish (Canned smoked fish is safe), deli meats (unless reheated). Any unpasteurized dairy. All of these things can carry the Listeria bacteria, and while there are little or no symptoms to the mother it can be fatal to the baby. It is also recommended to not eat samples at grocery stores (One of my parenting magazines had a story about a woman that lost a baby at 8 months due to getting Listeria from a grocery store sample). If you get a case of diareah during pregnancy you should contact your doctor because this is about one of the only signs that a woman may have it.

okay women though out generations have eaten whatever they wanted while pregnant. stop obsessing--it's bad for the baby. And eat whatever you want the other stuff is a bunch of hype. I didn't even here about it while I was pregnant and I have two healthy boys. The drugs, smoking and alcohol are good to stay away from. Drugs include over the counter kind too.

Don't worry at worst you could get food poisoning from the egg in the mayo (salmonella) . that will more hurt you than the baby. DIARRHEA / VOMITING/STOMACH PAIN !!!! If that hasn't happened yet I'm sure your fine (systems of food poisoning usually occur within eight hours) . On the other hand if you are experiencing those symptoms you should focus on getting your fluids so you don't get dehydrated. If you do CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!

You only need to worry about homemade mayonnaise. Retail or store-bought mayo contains pasteurized eggs which are safe.

But if you ate it that long ago and nothing's happened, I'd say you're safe.

You would have to eat large amounts of harmul foodstuffs through the majority of your pregnancy for it to be truly be harmful. As long as you are not eating straight mercury or anything you will be fine. It is more dangerous right now to avoid cats/litterboxes and caffiene than a little bit of mayoniase.

Mayonnaise will not hurt the baby, except if it was bad and you have food poisoning from it. You pretty much can eat anything when your pregnant.
