You know I dont want a dial up connection because everytime I dial it says " The modem not configured properly". I want broadband ( always online) and not to dial a phone or what but still need a modem on broadband? ( my modem is D-link).

No. Broadband will use another form of modem.
It will connect the cable to the ethernet port on your computer, (assuming you have one). An ethernet port looks like a telephone jack, except that it has 8 possible wire connections instead of 4.

Despite what you may be given when you sign up, you should consider purchasing a firewall appliance to go between your computer and the broadband modem, (or to replace the broadband modem).

A firewall appliance will help keep hackers from taking over your computer. Of course, all other anti-virus/anti-spyware precautions are highly recommened as well.

Happy surfing

No the modem in yoru Pc you are using now for dial up is NOT used for true broadband. You will use the NIC instead. If you use cable you will either need to buy a cable modem or the cable co will glaldy supply you with one, same if you use DSl.

Broadband still uses a device commonly called a modem, even though it is not. It is simply a converter witch splits a coax cable connection out to an Ethernet connection.

When you sign up for a new broadband account, you will very likely get a free broadband modem when you join. Your old modem won't work with abroadband connection.

Whoever gives you the broadband connection will either give you a free modem or suggest you buy one as per their specifications. Your old modem will most likely be unsuitable.

Your modem will have certain speed limit right? When you sign up with any broadband, usually the 'package' will come with a broadband modem. =)
