I stopped for a while and have a daughter now, however I am currently using it now as birth control. But my concern is I wonder if not menstruating will have an adverse effect on my body somehow. Should I only use this for a certain amount of time, or only stop if I run into problems?

I was on Depo for 8 years. Just yesterday, I went to get another shot and decided it was time to get something else. The nurse said it was okay to not have a period with Depo ( I havent had a period since 2002). But Depo depletes your body of calcium and that is something that is essential to our health. I noticed that my teeth were really weak and I have tons of cavities. I accidently bite into a fork and it broke my tooth! I'm now using the patch. Talk to your doctor about what other options you can use...I tried to ask for IUD but they won't give it to me since I have not given birth yet. That might be something you could use, though.

I had the Norplant, don't go there, they moved in my arm. I then went with the depo for about 3 years. I got to hurting inside so bad that they had to do exploratory surgery just to make sure nothing was wrong and just go ahead and do a tubal ligation They didn't find anything, but I quit taking the depo and started felling better. So if you start feeling sore or it hurts to have sex, then it is time to stop taking it.

Going on and off birth control between pregnancies shouldn't cause any kind of complications but you should probably see your doctor if your periods are not normal. If they're either very heavy or very light. You should probably see your doctor and ask him/her what they think you should do.
