Before coming to China, the answer would be yes I will say thank you and enter. However, since living in China for so long, I find the male dominated culture to be rather annoying. Women will hold the door for me, especially if she is a house girl. I thank them and grab the door, insisting they enter first.

If female students hold the door for me, I will thank them and enter. Then I will stand at the door until they enter; they are still female. I am from the Deep South; my gentlemanly posturing is from years of chivalry thinking, which will never end.

In todays world having a stranger hold the door for you is rare. In response to such a genuine decent gesture I do say thank you especially when the person is kind to hold it for you even if they are not planning on going through that door. Being polite is never passe but always in fashion.

I always do but only if that stranger doesn't feel strange. All bad people have an aurora about them and if u pay attention u can sense it and then you say no thank you go first. If they insist give them that I'll F--K u up look bad people are cowards and will stick there tail between their legs and run. So be aware and say THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND GO ON THRU THE DOOR OR SAY NO THANK YOU I'LL WAIT . Grandma Rosey

Of course! Cause I dont really like it when people dont say thank you when I hold the door for them. Dont tell me that I should be looking out for acknowledgement when doing good deeds, I'm not. Its just that you know, I feel slightly ignored. Its a very slight but real feeling. It's not cause i'm childish. Or so I insist

Of course! If someone took the time out of their day to hold the door for me, it is only right that I acknowledge it.

Yes. I have seen people on cell phones forget to say thank you - they just walk in the open door. Sheesh!

Yes. I do! It's ingrained in me from childhood! Besides I would do it anyways because no one owes me a thing!

I always thank the taxi driver, bus driver when I get on and off the bus, grocery clerks and grocery cashiers, doctors, dentists, etc. Anyone that performs a service for me.

unless what the stranger plans is to slam the door into your back when you step through it, then SURE!! Why not? People need to show gratitude more often.

Heck yes!!! And I always hold it for other people! It seems like common courtesy is something of the past. I love helping other people and being helped! I definitely show respect for those who haven't forgotten their fellow man....
