are we free to surf what may be considered "adult" sites, (NOTHING involving children)and have our cache contain "key" words w/o fear of being arrested? if deleted material truly isn't deleted from the hard drive, is there a way to clean it? does it have to cost a fortune? has anyone-other than me- ever received a notice upon opening the browser, that they are being monitered and are at "high risk"? possibly, this notice could've been a hoax, because it did contain a link to a software download that would clean my computer, (for $100) i DO NOT engage in what i believe is illeagal activity.

No. There aren't enough resources to do all that monitoring. Such conspiracy theories are fairy-tales.

Contrary to what "Iridium190" wants to believe. YES the government scans EVERY word that goes through the Internet. This is done by all the Routers on the web and when "key" words are seen that traffic is duplicated and sent to government computers for analysis.
Its also REQUIRED by law that ALL Internet Service Providers keep a log of EVERY web site visited by there users for a period of 5-Years. Most keep it longer.
Proxies do not help because the FBI and other government agencies go to those sites and confiscate there hard drives whenever they feel the need.
What you got on your computer was probably a HOAX!!! The FBI uses a more direct approach, with guns blaring! LOL
Really they will just show up uninvited if they suspect you of wrong doing.

Nothing is truly gone on a PC. No matter how many formats or partitions you perform, your data will always be there. Short of burning it, crushing it completely or blowing the hard disk up with the right software and tools experts can retrieve any supposedly deleted bits and bytes.
As for the beloved Google? Well, they HAVE to hand over any information regarding users if the government demands that they do. Every query, site, question, keyword or link you clicked on the government could have. Creepy huh?!?

You can be monitored - up to a point. If you are an adult and not going to kiddy porn sites then you most likely have no cause for concern, unless you are in one of those nasty geographical areas that don't allow anything (like China). The notice you received is a way to scare people into buying software that they probably do not need. Note - I am assuming you are referring to a home computer, a business computer can always be monitored and different rules apply-depending on the business.

The Govenment wanting search info from Google, Yahoo and others is not to see if you visiting porn sites. They are looking for terrorist doing searches of info on targets. For example. Someone does a google or yahoo map search for the Sears Tower. Then they see another search for Images of the Sears Tower. Then they do another search for building plans etc. This is the kind ot things they are looking for.
Unless you do searches for explosives and then maybe search for the location of the porn site server etc. Then they might check you out. They wouldn't want a porn site destroyed, now would they. From what I've read most of the government employees like those sites also.

Looking at porn, on the internet is NOT illegal. I don't know why lots of people think it is, because the only porn that is illegal, is "kiddie" porn. The US government cannot possibly monitor everyone's computer. The only thing they look for are words, that a terrorist, would use. You do not have to worry about looking at porn. You have a better chance of getting arrested, for downloading, illegal music from the internet, sites like limewire etc..

They CAN scan your stuff if they wanted to, but common sense would lead me to think they don't, cause that would take alot of resources.
