Think of your friends, your parents, your grandparents, their histories, etc.
Think of the change in lifestyles from cave man to Little House on the Prairie to WWII era to today....
What is happening with us? Is it just me, but are teenagers today scaring the heck out of you? Are our parents dysfunctional? Were we meant to be this way? Divorce rates, school shootings, adultery, drugs, internet....what is going on?

People are spending less and less time interacting with one another and more and more time interacting with machines, this will lead to more antisocial behavior.Suburbanization has further isolated people by separating them by space and forcing people into cars- practically eliminating chance encounters with other humans which typified urban social networking. As communities disappear, the incentive for people to maintain a standing in it by behaving themselves in a civilized and courteous manner will fade as well.
And if you don't give me ten points for this answer I'll pee on your petunias

Desensitized Society, yes and no.
Yes, if we did the things we do today back then it would be horrible, most probably a death sentence. Pamela Anderson's boobs would be considered outrageous and she would of been placed in a cage.
Society, give or take has come to be moreaccepting in SOME ways. Things that bothered people in past generations have been "lost" due the generation gap and the mindset of material wealth, survival of the fittest. Darwin style but good people do exist.
This doesn't mean I agree with all those things that you've posted as being "acceptable." People just don't give a **** now a days, they don't know any better as there is a generation gap between grandparents and kids. There are people who do give a **** and are truly open minded and tolerant. Too many dimensions to this but I hope that's clear to you.
The world has come so far but has a lot more work to be done!

The values of the younger generation is different from the older generation. Most noticably is the concept of patriotism and materialism. The new group of people are enjoying the result of the hard works that people from the previous generation put in (developing technology, medical science, law and order). However I am not seeing as much contribution from the younger generation to help make the society a better place to live in. Perhaps I am not being fair here because of all the negative news on TV regarding youth offenders, and that everytime shootings happen it often involve kids younger and younger in age.
The gap between rich and poor is starting to widen, and our society generally see money worth more than anything else. The more you own, the higher up you are, and so it seems. People are not putting the attention to where they should be. Education, health care, environmental issues. All of those are just as important as making money. I think we need a reality check and re-evaluate our current set of values.

I say that people are getting meaner. A pity. People have forgotten their values. People are becoming less humane. People have become so much self-centered and will do anything to get what they want. People now act like the animals. No wait, scratch that. Animals are more human than us. They respect each other's territory (like the dogs), protect their loved ones (those animals that have their offsprings), and lots of other good things (think I learned that from someone who studied Psych. lol). *oops, I should change 'people' to 'we'. lol* But I don't think ALL people have become meaner. There are still some who show certain acts of kindness. It's nice to know that there is still some good left in people. ^_^

Things are definitely worse and people are meaner. Nobody cares about anybody else.
Kids are having kids and not knowing what to do with them.
Everything is computerized, so there's less and less communication between human beings.
People want everything NOW, they hate to wait.
Neighbors aren't neighborly, and its hard to find person who works at customer service who actually want to serve the customer.
It's a mean, mean world.

Of course there is allot more tolerance as time goes by, we get use to the fact that people now have guns in school and drugs and people have no manners anymore, it's just like gas prices. yes it's a uproar when it first comes out but then it dies down and we just accept that we have to pay the high price in order to get around.

Meaner.
Not sure why. But we seem to get more and more self centered with new generation.
I suspect it is the society we are in now that gives us permission to misbehave. So we do. And every generation we draw the line a little but further.

As we become a society that ignores morals and ethical standards, we are becoming much meaner and will unfortunately continue to do so.
