The only war that the US and Russia fought against each other was The Cold War--a war of clashing ideaologies and politics.
However, should a war begin between Russia and the United States, it will undoubtedly be fought with nuclear arms. In such a scenario, the victorious side will be the one with the greater intercept system (shooting down missiles, planes, and subs).

You mean who will win after the nuclear catastrophe in both countries ? The destruction is going to be so big that none of the armies will be able to invade the enemy country and capture it. So, no winner.
