Ok, CNN for the left and Fox for the right for example. Or the saturation of Right Wing pundits on a.m. radio. Do they sway your thinking and voting?

I watch/listen to them all - for their perspectives - to learn about an issue from all angles. I make my own decisions. (I can only take Rush for about 10 minutes - all he does is tell you how wonderful/smart/perfect HE is. This from an Oxy addict.) National Public Radio is pretty good if you're in the car - they lean left, but try to be fair. O'Reilly is a great performer - and he can get information out of people. I actually like him - even though he's another one who thinks he's better than sliced bread. Fair and Balanced? He makes you THINK he's trying - but he's right-wing. Entertaining though.

Anita, you ask a really important question. Let me give it a go. These outlets don't affect me, and actually, quite apart from the received wisdom, I don't think they have too much impact on most people.

People have a tendency to seek out information that already supports their ideas of right and wrong. Thus, Conservatives tend to shy away from CNN, and tune in FOX, while Liberals do the opposite.

It's a well established principle in the field of Cognitive Psychology that people tend to filter information through their Cognitive Grids. To avoid Cognitive Dissonance, they tend to let through those elements that agree with their cognitive expectations, and filter out the elements that conflict. Thus, for the most part, people aren't really trying to learn in an objective way, they're really trying to gather more data to support already committed positions.

How's that?

My views are my own developed over the years through experience and by seeking the real truth, not what spin a journalist wishes or is told to put on a news story.Read, listen to all views, not just the ones you believe in,research others ideas and statements. Then use your own common sense to make a judgment as to facts not just opinions. I am not influenced by any thing but what I have found to be not just My truth but a universal truth.Sometimes the truth is tainted by your cultural up bringing as well as the media.

Only in as much as I hear a news story and then think:

1. That's stupid
2. That's wrong
3. That's right
4. That makes me happy
5 That makes me mad.

It's not like I hear a news story and then sit there with a flat line expression until I hear a radio personality give their opinion and then I say "Yeah, me too." I do actually have my own opinions. The rediculous part is that a liberal will tell you that you are a "mindless follower" if you happen to agree with a talk show host. Aren't they as mindless when they agree with Al Gore? How about Liberman? He had an opinion that wasn't mindless following of the liberal line and now they are going to hang him for it.

Oh totally, the news is the best place for fair and balanced information. If you look at news sources they all report the same stories with the same wording so how can they be left or right leaning. Plus its so much easier than reading books. God I hate reading and books.

(CNN is certainly not the "left")

we all have to get our news from somewhere, so certainly the media influences our views, I can't watch any cable commercial news channel. They are all horrible. I get news from internet, NPR, and BBC.

CNN isn't as left-handed as you might think.

And yes, the TV has major political influences on me.

of course they do. that why its called proaganda. people who are ignorant base their beliefs on these types of things, thats what the politicans want you to do. Thats how Hitler was able to come to power because he was able to use propaganda to get himslef the power he needed. you should read Animal Farm, it really shows how these types of thing form you decisions.

I refuse to watch the talking heads. They lie to promote their leftist ideology.
