There is a tiny mite that is attacking the Pin Oak tree in the Midwest. I read an article in USA today that said Lincoln Nebraska has a serious problem with them. It is causing them to lose leaves, but the article says it really doesn't pose a health risk to the tree. The mite is actually harder on humans. They are very tiny, but have a ferocious bite. They leave welts that itch very badly. Also as others have mentioned, drought can also cause it. It is worrisome though considering pin oaks usually don't drop their leaves until late winter early spring.

We live in a woods and have had leaves come down in the summer. We figured that since we have so many trees some of them weren't getting enough moisture and were dropping the leaves.

It's not just the leaves that are falling every day; but little branchlets and there's an ugly ball-like growth on the tiny branch... They are perfectly green when they fall... not dead.

What area are you in? I'm in the south and we're in a drought condition. All my oaks are losing their leaves early because of the lack of water.

Either it's dry where you live and the tree isn't getting enough water or it may have a parasitic problem. Check for excessive amounts of aphids or other tiny bugs.
It may also have dutch elms disease..... heh-heh. JK
