Yes, and just about every bone in your body because the roof of the lift will crash down on you.

********

OK, if the roof doesn't crush you, then it's just about the same as you jumping straight off a 100 storey building.

It's the same with jumping off a plane that's free falling just before it crashes to the ground. Will you be better off than the guy who stayed inside? Not.

Try this. Stand on top of a 10ft wall with an egg in your hand. Jump off, and just before you hit the ground throw the egg up a little bit. Does the egg still break?

Oops! Don't try that.. you might just sprain your ankles.

Instead of hitting the floor at 60 miles an hour, you will hit the floor at 50. You are falling to. In relation to the outside world you are falling at the same speed as the lift. Jumping at the right time would just slow your descent a little.

If you jumped at the last moment you'd hit the ground at maybe 2/3 miles per hour slower than if you hadn't. This is because you feel as though you aren't moving but you are actually moving at really high speeds.

The place where this myth started was probably a one off, as the elevator was a really tight fit for the shaft it fell down, this created a bubble of air that slowed the ift a little, still the woman involved had lots of broken bones and burns.

You wouldn't be able to jump fast enough to completely cancel out the speed at which you were falling. You would simply hit the ground at a lower speed than the original free-fall speed.

youd go flat as a pancake. the floor comes up when it hits the ground. the lift just goes flat and whatever or whoever is inside will go the same way as the floor. Not a nice thought. youd never survive it not just your legs breaking youd be mush x

Even if you were able to jump out, you would be traveling as fast as the 'car'.
You would probably break more than your legs.

It's pretty likely you will still break almost everything. The speed at which you jump is far slower than the speed you are travelling.
