For girls I must say things like butterfilies with tribal what not on their lower back. I was at the beach a couple weeks a go and must have seen at least 5 different girls with the exact same tattoo (they weren't a group with the same it was 5 differrent people along the beach as I walked)
For guys I agree, enough of the tribal arm bands, they all look pretty much the same now and unless you're from a real tribe really do you need it?
Personally I think that a lot of thought should go into anything you put permanantly on your body and shouldnt just be taken out a book or off a wall "because it looks cool" I don't think much of anything of the person except that they really didn't think too much and they just got it to have it.

You know what I think is funny? People that have the nerve to make fun of other people with tattoos and can't even SPELL tattoo (the first answerer).
But anyway, the only thing that bothers me is when people just walk into a tattoo parlor and pick a tattoo off of the wall. That's about as cliche as it gets. I'm not a fan of the tribal armband, either, but if they design it themselves and it means something to them, then more power to them. As for the lower back tattoo, I have one, along with 3 others and the only reason I got it there was b/c I am limited in where I can get tattoos since I prefer not to have extremely visible ink. 3 of my tattoos are on my back and I will likely get more of them on my back. I'd like to have my back mostly tattooed in the next 10 years b/c I really enjoy getting tattoos.

I see no reason for a woman with a lower back tattoo to be labeled "skank"...that's a very unfair negative judgement against someone you know nothing about (beyond the fact they have a tattoo).
People get what they like...truth of the matter is that now that tattoos are more acceptable in mainstream society, many people have them and there are only so many places on the body where they look kewl, and can be seen by others when wearing 'typical' clothing.
I just got my 2nd one done 2 days ago (lower belly, to the left of my navel). My next one is going to be down my spine, top to bottom.
Lower back is often chosen, because with today's low rise pants and shorts, it's easy to get one that will at least partially show. If I'm going to pay good money for art on my body, I want it seen by people other than a lover...know what I mean? For women, low back makes sense as it can be seen when desired, but fairly easily hidden as well.
The tribal bands on guys look kewl...doesn't matter if they are part of anyone's tribe (other than the human race tribe) I dig a lot of that art...in fact my spine one is a Celtic design, and Celtic knotwork is often part of tribal designs.
People should get what they like, and get it where they want it...remembering that it's going to be there for a while, and to take work and such into consideration as far as if it is appropriate for it to be seen or not.

Girls;
Tramp Tats, Lower Back.
Guys,
Trible, and Skulls.
Any person whos tattoos have NO meaning behind them other than, "Dude, I thought It looked Cool when I got it."
That is not a reason, that is a childish stance on something that will be with your forever.
I have 5 and am getting more on wednesday the 9th. All of mine have a deep meaning and are show you my ideas and feelings.

I think any tattoo that is put in a spot where it can be seen in a buisness atmosphere is Overdone. If you want a tattoo put it in a spot where the rest of us dont have to see it at work!! I have 6 tatts and not one of them can be seen at church or work.
In my opinion no tattoo would be OVERKILLED if the people owning them would pull up their pants (girls buttcrack tatts) and wear a shirt with long sleeves (guys and their arm tatts).

I agree that the tribal is completely played out.
I think that chinese characters are done. How do you even know what it says?
There is always the trifecta of manly tattoos: a tribal, an armband and chinese characters. I always think (sarcastically): Wow. He's tough.

why would you call someone a skank for having a lower back tattoo? that's really stupid. it's called a trend.....people do things similarly in every aspect of fashion/body art. do you think "skank" when someone has their ears pierced? Obviously since almost everyone has their ears pierced, it's overkill so anyone who gets their ears pierced now is a skank since soooo many people have done it.
You're dumb.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I asked someone why they got their tattoo. They said it was to show their indivduality. I said it certainly shows your inDUHviduality alright. I don't have a tatoo, just to show mine!
