Cant' say it's one of those thing's that bother's me lot's! ;-)
Actually, it does! Especially when you see it on signs and 'official' documents. Check out the apostrophe protection society.

Nae smarties puttin apo's everywhere in the answers now!!!
well that's one poor use of an apostrope, you are talking about more than 1, so apos would be correct, but apo is not an acccepted abbreviatoin for apostrophe. Yes, wrong use of the apostrope is bad, and, of course, the whole reason behind the Lynn Truss book,

Right....days are not far away when teachers start to teach the correct use of apo's. The use of thorough grammar is becoming a laughable matter to so many fellows in these days.
By the way, don't you think instead of submitting a proper or adequate answer, some answerers put those so many pages directly from encyclopedia? I just witnessed one such example.... its annoying really!

I've read that book too, SLH. It's very entertaining. I'm a University student and on the website for it, most of the students there spell poorly and mis-use punctuation. The most common error there is "your" instead of "you're". Very annoying. I brought it up on the site and they all rained down on me like I was an evil man...

Ummmm why do you have an aprostrophe there. It would be apo.s wouldn't it?
Oh and I am also driven MAD by people who quote Wikipedia instead of ANSWERING A QUESTION. WE KNOW WHAT AN ' IS and what it is for. We don't need the life story of it.

Yes, especially the incorrect use of its/it's.
Have you read "Eats, shoots and Leaves"? It is a very funny book about the missuse of various marks such as apostrophes, commas, colons and semi-colons.

Arrgh! Even your question! I grade grammar for different states' standardized tests, and it drives me up the wall to see the way they spell. I've gotten so that I automatically notice the grammar errors even in newspapers and magazines.
