Well it's not great for you, so long term it might not be the best, but right now it shouldn't be an issue. There is a lot of caffeine, but as long as caffeine doesn't effect you negatively, you should be OK. But don't be fooled: just because it's diet doesn't mean it's that much better for you. They just use a different type of sweetener. So I wouldn't make it all you drink. And since there is caffeine, I'd make sure you drink at least one bottle of water for ever Diet Coke you consume during the day.

I drink LOADS of diet coke... and many people tell me it is bad for you.... quite frankly who cares.. I have one life and I enjoy diet coke, I don't do other stuff like smokng or taking drugs, I don't even drink a lot of alcohol.... so if I want to drink diet coke then I think I jolly well shall do.. (and its got to be better than the non-diet variety).... hey and get this.....someone once told me to put a tiny bit of minced meat into an egg cup of diet coke, leave it over night and see the bit of meat will have rotted away the next mornin. I can't believe I actually did it- but I did,( I am embarrased to say) and guess what....... the little bit of meat was still there. .!

sorry for the long answer........ I HATE long answers...

yes, currently they are doing studies regarding aspartame, the sweetener in diet sodas. they have found that it doubles as ant poison and by placing NutraSweet strategically around areas where ants are located, it can kill them. they are not sure of the mechanism, but they are assuming that it affects their nervous system. So besides the fact that it is bad for your teeth, it is likely to have long term side effects. Take into consideration that it is a chemically made compound, and that as of late, recommendations are being made to attain as many natural food sources as possible in your diet. Raw sugar (brown in color), is probably the best for you. Another side note on diet sodas, the aspartame is known to cause an increase in appetite, so if you are drinking it for weight loss, i wouldn't. however if you are drinking it for insulin regulation (diabetic), i would suggest drinking water, and adding lemon or lime to it instead to change the taste a little. good luck

Sure. Diet Coke is sweetened with Aspartame, which is metabolized in the body into methanol--which is the same chemical that causes hangovers.

Of course, the manufacturer claims it's perfectly safe, you couldn't possibly drink enough to be harmful, etc.

Also be warned that carbonated drinks (ie fizzy ones) leach calcium from your bones. This can lead to osteoperosis (brittle bones) especially in women in middle age. This is in addition to the massive doses of caffeine, sweeteners and additives that fizzy drinks are loaded with anyway.

I'm glad you asked that. I always avoid "full-fat" fizzy pop coz of the sugar, same with chewy, but I have absolutely no idea if I'm doing myself more harm than good! Some people say the fake sweetener stuff is bad for you.......

Aspartame (artificial sweetener) is a serious health hasard. It is said to be the cause of memory problems. The use of extreme amounts (I mean really excessive) is actually poisonous so go on have another one!!
