I plan to start doing flea markets three times a month in NJ. My items will be a 80/20 mixed of new/used items. What do I need to do as far as licensing and taxes?

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I posted links for you in the source box pertaining to starting a business in yourNew Jersey.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Flea Market America: The Complete Guide to Flea Enterprise by Cree McCree "
* The Official Directory to U.S. Flea Markets Eighth Edition by Kitty Werner

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

ask the flea market if you need a license. but for the rest of the stuff. you all ready have a tax id number (put a 0 on front of you SS# ) then just keep a book you can get a good one at office max or staples for like $15 you right in all the money you spend, booth rental, cost of merch, gas, building supplies(tables and other display items) all of which are tax deductible. then put in your daily sales and tax (if needed) total every thing at the bottom. its easier then you would think and in a few weeks you can go over your books and see if you make enough money to make it worth it. GOOD LUCK

contact your county clerk's office to get a sales tax number

contact the flea market where you plan to set up and ask them what you need
