I have a bearded dragon he is like a year and a half old. He eats meal worms, crickets, the food from the pet store and romaine lettuce and occassional strawberry, and a few other fruits. We have a friend of my sons staying here with us right now and he says he feeds his bearded dragon butterfly's and locusts. Is that safe? I was always told not to feed them any other bug besides crickets and meal worms. Am I depriving my baby?

You're playing it safe, nothing wrong with that. There are lots of native bugs that they can eat, but there are also some that can be deadly, such as fireflies. You can also buy butterworms, silkworms, waxworms etc... if you want to give him a variety. One thing I'd like to mention is that you may want to offer more variety when it comes to the veggies. Collard greens, mustard greens, kale, bok choy, endive etc... are all good greens (just no spinach or iceberg lettuce), and dandelion flowers/greens are excellent if you get/pick them pesticide free. Also, I'd give them more veggies and cut back on the fruit a bit. They love carrot, squash, the frozen mixed veggies (corn, peas, green beans, lima beans) etc... All in all sounds like you're doing a good job though:)

I just got my beardie baby this past weekend, and I adore him. I would not try to feed him wild things or wild plants, just to be safe. That kid is living dangerously, any of those wild bugs might carry diseases and parasites.
