Honestly... many people don't find out until they are older. My grandpa smoked tons when he was young, and it is just now catching it up to him. He has emphysema.
But I too smoked for a couple years, and right now I feel fine. It also depends on how much you smoked in those two years. A pack a day or a pack a week?
Well, either way... that is wonderful that you have decided to stop smoking. I have been off tobacco for over 7 years now. Congratulations!!

Yeah, sure, you probably did some damage, but never underestimate the power of your body to heal itself. The most important thing is to QUIT. Each successive day that passes, your body will heal itself more and more, and your risk of getting cancer will slowly inch towards that of a non-smoker. Just stay off the cigs, you'll be glad you did.
And by the way, if you ARE indeed just now quitting, try your hardest to make it through the first 3-4 days. Thats how long it takes for your body to purge the toxins. After those first 3 or 4 days, most of the physical withdrawal effects will be gone, and from then on, the battle is psychological/behavioral.
One of the things that helped me refrain from reaching for a cigarette was imaging myself with lung cancer....I'd go online and type in "lung cancer" in the yahoo image search....and I'd read stories about people getting their legs amputated from vascular shut-down caused by smoking...etc etc......
good luck!

Your lungs heal themselves after a period of time. A person who smoked for 20 years can quit and 10 years later there will be no trace of it at all. You could have still caused damage but since if was a relatively short period of time you should be fine.

Yes. You were putting hot ash and tar into your lungs for two years. The good news is that studies have shown if you quit smoking, and avoid overly smoky places, you can reverse much of the damage that has been done.
Anyway, Good for You! So glad to know you are going to quit. Even if it gets hard, just think how your body will thank you, not to mention the money you will save.

Yes you did but great news my mom works at a dental office and they booklets about smoking and the moment you quite you start to heal it also said that after a few hours of not smoking you may get dizzy but thats normal because your body is getting more oxygen than it is used to.Well good luck

They say the damage resolves itself over time, but my wife who smoked for about 5 years - sometimes as much as 2 packs a day gets bronchitis really easily.

If you are lucky, your lung cells will eventually regenerate and be pretty much fully healthy. You could get unlucky though and already have cancer, so don't delay on the quitting!
Most cells in the body (except for brain cells) will fully regenerate within a few years.
