Many snakes find shelter under objects, like logs, rocks or foliage. Snakes cannot make dens, due to the lack of tools to do so, most rattlesnakes for instance that have dens , usually just occupy vacant prarie dog nests.
Many communal groupings of snakes occur in rock crevaces. These are commonly refered to as a hibernaculum. it is the place where many snakes sometimes of different species aggregate for hibernation.

Some do but they are not as complex as ant ones. Some just have holes in the ground. Usually its a single tunnel with two entry points and an enlarged area in the middle is the actual den.

They've got big comfortable green chairs, moose heads on the walls, lots of shelves with fancy musty old books, and lots of brandy snifters. And I hear that the snakes like to wear robes with ascots and monocles.
