He is your responsibility until he turns 18, regardless if he's going to school or not.

So is he no longer your son? Does he no longer need your support? What would you rather spend this money on?.... Put it in reverse... He finishes an apprenticeship and gets a really good job. he makes lots of money...You get old and need support... do you think he would walk away from you? Best to tell him that you only wanted a 17 year relationship. Call yourself a dad?

You would have to check with your attorney as the laws vary from state to state and country to country, but in most cases you are on the hook for child support until the child is 18, or 22 if they continue their education beyond high school.

Well said Stormy

As I understand (presuming you mean maintenace) then no you don't have to as he is no longer in full time education. Does that mean he doesn't need money to live anymore though? Nope I don't think so.

Do whats morally right and legally right. Sometimes the law is an Ar$e

All states may have varing laws. In our state, the decree is usually written...till their 19th birthday, emancipated, or joining military. Go back and read your decree and consult a lawyer. You will have to have a judge place an order as to stop it anyway. You cannot just quit paying without it.

you need to check your divorce decree but I believe in this case you still are obligated until he turns 18 and is emancipated.I know in Indiana the judge wanted to be sure my then 18 year old son was emancipated after graduating high school...and this delayed our divorce for 4 more months so the ex wouldn't have to pay child support for him.

no you dont have to pay any more, if he stayed in full time education then you would have to pay up until the day before his 18th birthday, my father in law looked into this as he was in the same situation with his daughter
