It kind of does not that I think about it. Bush is equally as crazy as the High chancellor.

Well.. remember movies and TV are not true, unless they specify that they are. Someone sits down and writes them and has purposes in mind, and many times those purposes are to promote or fulfill an agenda.
They can put a desired spin on anything, and then put it on the screen - it is a form of politics, and most of Hollywood's is very liberal.
Yes, you could get a subtle spin on the government, or not so subtle.
V for Vendetta is aimed at an age group - to entertain and influence, knowing where most of young people already are. It is an extreme ( and poorly done ) example of what young people want to see ot hear.
Don't worry - you are safe.

I enjoyed the V for Vendetta very much but the film did get one thing wrong, artists don't always tell lies to convey the truth which is what the film is trying to say about itself.

Hollywood films can be brilliantly manipulative, especially a thought provoking political film like "V" which skillfully preys on the beliefs of consipiracy theorists. People should be mindful of this.

That said, this film is very relevant and if you ignore some of its extremeties, such as parliment releasing the virus against its own people, much of it does indeed apply to our current American government.

Oho, it most surely does. Especially the SARS and Bird Flu connections with the plague stuff. Anthrax included.

Remember that the Anthrax issue turned out to be coming from somewhere within one of the agencies, to create fear of others. The thing is both the admin and the film are based around the kind of cold war/1982 scenario where all who are against the admin go to hell.

Yep, I do. But the Brits are way farther down that path than we
are, since they [effectively] banned private gun ownership, and
have survellience cameras all over the country, particularly in
London. If a demon(sic)crat [and many repubs] gets in (2008)though, they will probably try to catch up with the ("highly advanced") Euros.

What would you know about the American Government? What you heard from your friends? What you heard in the Media?
Do you not realize that everything you know or have heard is only what the government allows our enemies to know? You don't have a need to know what's going on, and I promise you that the media won't report the truth, only what they want us to believe. Wake up!

Yeah, whats really ironic, is the Wachowski brothers actually started this project back in the 1980's when the whole Iran/Contra controversy was happening.

Can we say "Prophetic?"

There is no such thing as an American government, America is a continent not a country, you probably mean the United Statesian government.

Please express yourself correctly.

That was an AWESOME movie. That first speaking part that Hugo Weaving had gave me goosebumps, he did it so well. But who could ever hate the guy who played Agent Smith in the Matrix, and Elrond in LOTR?
Anyway, as for your question, I did see some elements of current events thrown in there. But it seemed to me like it was more of a political statement, than the direction we're heading.
You can call me a sheep, but I don't believe it for a second.
