I just read that 95% of couples will conceive naturally in two years. So is that inaccurate, or are people seeking treatments after a few months, or is something else going on?

That is usually the timeframe that a doctor will give you before they try any other method. They also look at your medical history and examine you to make sure all is well. If all is well, they send you on your way and ask you to try for about 2 yrs and if that doesn't work then they run further tests.
I was given an idea of when I might ovulate each month, when we should have sex and a few months later it happened on its own!

It is recommended to try for at least 2 years. It CAN take a healthy couple two years to conceive, epsecially if the woman does not know here cycle. The best thing to do it is keep track of your periods on a calendar. Have sex about 10 days after the first day of your last period and have sex every OTHER day through day 16 because it has been proven that too much sex can lower your partner's sperm count.

In the U.S., they recommend that you try for 1 year before having any testing done. If you are over 35, however, the period to wait is shorter because fertility declines so quickly at that time. It is best to get a regular check-up before you start trying to get pregnant so you can get the go-ahead from your OB, and at that time, you can ask any questions. It is possible that, given any particular conditions you may have, the doctor may suggest trying for a shorter period of time before testing for any infertility issues, and the doctor could also have some suggestions for conceiving as soon as possible.

Knitmama ~ First it depends on your age, if you have any children, if you've miscarried. Most specialists would not see you till you've been trying for a year or have had multiple miscarriages. If you're concerned, I would go to your OBGYN and then let them refer you to a specialist because the OB can at least do some testing (makes it cheaper) and then send you on!!! Good luck and Baby dust to you!!!

I think it's recommended that you try on your own for one year before consulting a fertility specialist.

Really, though, there's no way for them to track how long you've been trying, so you could tell them you've been TTC since God was a boy and they wouldn't know any different.

Good luck!
