I am thinking of starting a newspaper for my school, but not an official one, just one with me and some friends. I actually want it to be more magazine like. We plan to either give it out or email it to our classmates. I'm thinking email would be better.

Do you think this would work?
If so, what catorgories do you think we should have (news, advice, fasion, sports, health, etc) ?
What is some advice that you think would make it work?
Also, is emailing it a good idea?

Thanks in advance!

It will be much cheaper to treat it like an e-zine (zine is short for small magazine) than it would be to publish it. Paper and office supply costs are ridiculous and you do not yet have a clear base for your zine (I'm calling it a zine, but newspaper) so it probably would not be profitable to go that route.

You should cover everything you want to see in a magazine then you should ask close friends what they want to see. As people read it, ask them for suggestions for new features, but definitely start with what YOU want to read.

Don't stress out though. Make it a zine that's once a month or every two weeks. Once every week, unless you just have oodles of time, is not wise. It will suck the fun right out of your idea.

Hope you have fun.

Gossip columns are fun in these types of school things, but not mean stuff , just fun things. News, advice, sports all that is interesting. Comics would be cool too. I don't think kids would be into health, but maybe fashion. Good luck. I think email may work, but hard copy would be fun, but expensive too.

I have an english degree and i love to see kids get into it. I think you should make it school wide, or at least grade wide. you could do it every 6 weeks or 9 weeks, whichever system your school is on. include: news, news about test and project reminders, sports, health, fashion, celebrity teen gossip, advice column, tips for school subjects, teacher of the semester, or month, choose a few students to tell a little about themselves, even classified ads such as yard sales, for sale, etc. also, volunteer activities such as going to a nursing home, cleaning up a park, etc.
