To bring children into this world, which is full of such hate, racism and violence. Does this make us cruel people knowing at some point that they will experience at least one of these things in their childhood.

You have to understand that evolution is a power full process, regardless how you feel about the world and its terrible ways when your body is ready for kids you will complete your purpose, which is to have children. This is a beautiful experience which encourages a parent to make the world a better place for your child. Life has always been dulled by one atrocity or another but nothing is more satisfying than looking into your child's eyes.

The society we live in is in a constant balance between good and evil and without children we would not have a society.

I don't so much think that it is cruel to bring the children into this world as much as it is cruel to teach them to be cruel like the rest of society. We are supposed to learn from the mistakes before us, but all we do is teach more hatred and injustice.

Are we throwing our kids to the wolves by bringing them into a hateful world?

Good question.

But I'd rather believe that the world might one day be an infinitesimally better place because they were here.

Whether or not that is the case ultimately rests with parents. Are we going to raise kids who will add to the world, or take from it?

It would be crueler not to bring them into the world; we can only hope that the world's children (present and future) will have the foresight to sort out so much stuff that we've gotten wrong... unfortunately, as we grow, we loose sight of the bigger things and generally become selfish, focussing only on ourselves ... whether the same fate will befall future generations remains to be seen

I was once told that bringing a child into the world was God's way of telling us that the world must go on.

Our government has no problem killing people, and most seem to be OK with that. That's a heck of a model for children (and grown ups!) to follow. It says, it's OK to kill...
