I would get a cheap one from Wal-Mart. Why would you spend $150 - $200 on a iPod that is going to end up broken/lost/run through the wash?

if they're 12 or older, get them an iPod nano. If they're 10 or 11 get them an iPod shuffle. If they're under 10, don't even waste your time.
