Most city slickers are afraid of the outdoors (tent camping). Try planning a weekend trip close to home (within an hour) and see what happens.
If your planning a trip with children who've never been tent camping my suggestion is to set up the tent for a backyard run first, to see how they respond to sleeping in a tent, etc.
Join the youth hostels, they're always up for outdoor recreational fun.

Because it is boring, can be cold, wet, hot, sweaty, dirty, bugs everywhere, and just plain uncomfortable . . . that is unless you own a Winnebago, pay for parking at a beach-front resort, and spend two weeks at the beach. Now that kind of camping most people would love to do.

Because anyone who actually likes camping is obviously a douche. Get a hotel, we live in the 21st century for Christ's sake.

Because it's not fun to camp. It's too hot, there's not comfortable bedding, you have to walk pretty far to go to the toilet, you are outside with bugs, snakes, other wildlife.....get the idea.

maybe they just not in to the hole camping thing. somepeople dont like nature as well as others. many people would not want to sleep out side they rather be inside. and then it can be that you are not asking the right people.

well are u scary looking u into cults maybe no i'm playing now adays they just want to stay and play vids and go to bars and stuff like that nature is gone But there are still som people that like to do that like camping for one boat riding white water rafting hicking stuff like that

They probably don't like it. A lot of people don't see the appeal of sleeping outside on the hard ground with the bugs nearby. (Shudders at the thought).
