My belief is that "old soul" refers to how many lives the spirit has reincarnated. An old soul has been here many lifetimes whereas a new soul has only been here a few. Old souls are usually those that are wise beyond their years (good example is Dakota Fanning; a little girl with a grown up personality). Old souls seem more intelligent and insightful. They are usually calm in nature in a peaceful way. I find myself drawn to old souls for their wisdom.

You can tell if someone is an old soul by looking into their eyes. There is a certain depth in their eyes that others do not possess. An old soul possess wisdom, not merely intelligence. They have a calming affect on those around them without even having to say much. Being around an old soul is comforting and soothing. I dont believe that the term "old soul" references only how many past lives a person has...it is really what a person has learned in those lifetimes. Old souls have the ability to help others achieve certain things that they need to achieve in their lifetime.

With age comes wisdom based on common sense.

With age also comes the ability to communicate with a wide range of people.

With age comes a mellowness many can relate to and few are threatened by.

I feel this term 'old soul' refers to someone who has found balance and solance in their own lives, and has learned how to communicate this balance in words and deeds.

Souls are only as old as the bodies they're in. Wisdom and the ability to communicate it to others give the impression one has lived a longer life than they have, and I feel this is where this term comes from.

Meeting an old soul is a rare phenomenon as they are souls who are on their way out og our earth system, and the cycle of birth and death.

Meeting them is like meeting a sage, who has collected wisdom over many, many lifetimes and is now ready to share it with fellow beings, one would be lucky to meet or to recognize one.

A clear sign would be that they display wisdom and depth of personality that defies their age, here in this lifetime.

Yes I believe. It's just people's mannerisms and what they say. Espescially in the young. They have a look about them that is far beyond there years.
