It's good that you want to help your mom, but the thing is, you can't "make" anyone else stop smoking, or go on a diet, etc. It's a very hard thing to do and it takes a lot of commitment. If that person doesn't want to make that commitment, there's little anyone else can do. But, speaking as a mother myself, I think if you put it to her this way: "Mom, I love you. I want you to be around for a very long time. I want you to be there to dance at my children's weddings." That might get to her. Mothers can usually do things for the love of their children that they could not do for themselves or for anyone else. Ask her to talk to her doctor about those nicotine gums. It's very, very hard. Give her all the support you can, but do not feel guilty if you cannot get her to quit. This needs to come from inside her. She knows she should quit; she just needs to be ready to take on such a tough task.

Your Mom is the only one that can stop smoking, nothing you say or do will get her to stop until she makes the decision to quit. I smoked for 35 years and finally made up my mind to quit April 7th of this year. I got the best advise and motivation to stop smoking from this site:
http://communicate.msn.com/KEEPTHEQUITCLUB/howtoquit.msnw
See if you can get her to look at this site and direct her attention to the first 72 hours and how things will be like. It is still going to have to be her decision to stop though. They have this "Quit" date calculator that is easily downloaded from the site that calulates days, hours mins, etc., from the day a person quits. Here is what mine looks like: I have been quit for 4 Months, 23 hours, 8 minutes and 41 seconds (122 days). I have saved $461.11 by not smoking 3,074 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 3 Days, 16 hours and 10 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 4/7/2006 11:00 AM. Nicotine is a drug, and has to be treated as such. Hope this info helps.

Your mother is hooked. She is as dependent on cigarettes as a junky is dependent on drugs. It's very hard to quit. I know. I smoked for over 40 years. How did I quit? Dumb luck. I got sick and had a very sore throat. It actually hurt my throat to breath, let alone smoke. After 5 days, my throat felt better, and when I reached for that cigarette, I thought to myself "if I can go 5 days, I can go a week", after a week, I said "if I can go a week, I can go two". So far, it's been 18 months. Yes, I still miss it every day. It's only been within the past couple of months that I could be around someone who smokes and not want one badly. Your mother may want to quit, but it's just not that easy.

Smoke when talking to clients and entertaining, smoke during project work at workplace, smoke when he talks to workers while driving. Been stopping him since I was bor lol but to no aval. Guess everyone NEEDS to do something when working or thinking when tired or stress...sign...no way, no way unless cigarettes are banned for sale in Singapore and chewing gum is back to help!

ok one reason people smoke is because they are stress out
help her with stress, ask her questions give her massages
work with her dont criticize her
the more u complain about her smoking the more she will resist u
be a friend and motivator without pressurring her
smokin is an addiction that is very hard to stop
check online and do a google search

My aunt is a smoker and now has enphasima(sp?) I made her a deal that if she quit smoking I would go to church every week. She h as been smoke free for 4 weeks now. Maybe there is something you can to for your mom to show her how important it is to you that she stop smoking. I was a smoker for 10 years until my husband told me he did not want to ever watch me die. That was enough for me. Good luck.

Research smoking facts so you have concrete information, then just tell her the facts one fo two at a time when she is smoking. :Did you know that cigarettes have over 70 carcinigens.." or something like that. She will get pissed, but if you nag her enough she will quit! Or leave notes in her packs of cigarettes "i love you mom, but quit smoking!" Thats what i did, and my mom quit.

Smoking is one of the hardest habits for a person to quit. If she could see the lungs of a smoker, the scars from open heart surgery. the death statistics of smokers, maybe she will listen.
I'm on your side 100%. I would never date a girl who smoked, it is sooooooooooo unlady like to see smoke exiting a beautiful mouth.

Try to be her friend and alleviate some of her ongoing stress. Buy her the special chewing gum with nicotine, it really helps. Tell her that you appreciate her need for smoking but that you need her more than she needs her cigarettes. Keep on trying, it'll work.

This will recquire you to do things you probably wouldn't like to this sounds important to you plunge all in have her get some nicotine patches. Join her in a support group. If you find any of her tobacco products throw them away. Keep going no matter what she says or does she'l thank you later
