This often happens when two people think they love each other, but they actually did not, because they did not truly know each other. As time goes by we get to see sides of people we did not know existed.

An example: When someone pisses you off in the grocery store. You might get mad about it, but they really aren't worth having your day ruined over, but, when you love someone, and they disappoint you, it hurts worse, because it feels like you might have made a bad judgement in calling them your friend, lover, partner, spouse, whatever. . . . .
You really can't hate anyone that you don't love ( or did at some point.) If the depth of emotion isn't there at some level, then People who you don't know shoudln't get that kind of " free rent" in your head, taking time, preoccupying your thoughts, etc.
People who you know can always hurt you more deeply than that- they are the ones you invested time in, that you gave yourself to, that betrayed you at a level that you never thought they would. . ..

Love and hate are basically two even sides of the same thing... Like the two different ends of a number line. Love is the flip side of hate and visa versa... When things go wrong, people usually hate, as passionately as they once loved in equal measure until a common ground is found right smack dab in the middle... It is called indifference. Been there, done that...

By losing the ability to communicate, by one (or both) doing something unforgivable to the other, by respective families who interfere to a devastating degree. These are all examples of why love turns to hate and people who once loved become enemies.

Have you ever heard the expression there's a thin line between love and hate? Sometimes that's just the way it is it's hard to explain.
