Giannakis pronounced Yianakis! Im Greek Cypriot so that would be fine. An alternative as mentioned is Ioannis, which is more the correct version as that is what they would call you in Greece rather than Cyprus! We are a bit backwards in Cyprus.

"John" is not a Greek name. You can't translate names. Some names are so common that they tend to cross cultural borders.
John was a biblical personality, so his name has been carried around the world and pronounced and spelled as accurtely as possible by the local people. That's how you get John, Jan, Juan, Yan, and many others.
Not every language has "its own version" of a given name. In greek, I believe John is John.

The name you have been given is realy 'little John'.
More simple than above because the Greek letter 'g' is normally pronounced more like a 'y' is 'Yiannis'.
All Greek male names end in 's' but that letter is always dropped when you address someone (there is a reason - but don't ask).
Therefore go for:
Yianni
