After congressman ryan went down there to check him out he ryan realized he was full of **** and jones and his henchmen knew that ryan was going to blow the whistle on him so some of his men went and killed everyone at the plane as they were leaving jonestown including ryan. This is when some say Jones made his followers commit sucicide by drinking poison cool aid. some say that Jones took his own life but what really happened is that
he had slipped away from the compound to escape and was waiting on a boat to pick him up. my theory is that either the crooks he was dealing with shot him to keep him quiet forever or the government shot him to avoid any potential embarrassment about what he was doing there.

Jim Jones was a preacher who set up the Peoples Temple in San Francisco then moved to "Jonestown".....

When it looked as though the government had caught up with him, he had everyone commit suicide by drinking kool-aid that was poisoned. If anyone refused, or tried to run, they were shot.
