Everyone says: "just be yourself."

What if you don't like youself and want to be better?

Nobody walks on walks on water.

Wouldn't it be good for everybody to try to improve themselves?

first, why don't you like yourself? want to be better as a person? or on the outside...you just set some realistic and reachable goals for yourself, take it one step at a time. don't worry what strangers you cross paths with think about you! you are who you are and can change anything you put your mind to! Have a nice day.

Being better happens only after we first ensure that we are ourselves !
We have to do a lot to be anything other than being ourselves. To be ourselves, really, NOTHING need to be done. But this doing nothing CONSCIOUSLY is the thing !
Evolution does not stop with just being born ! It happens by itself. Look at a new born child. Till it gets too clever, aping others, it the child is "the child itself", and therefore, every body around finds almost any child lovable, innocent looking, etc.
As the child grows, it becomes better and better. The problem is the rate of betterment is never that good after becoming 'grown up' !

This is like a New Years Resolution. Many of us say "I'm gonna do ______", but most never follow through with it. So I ask what is it about those people we admire? Why do we admire them. Well because they did "it" they asked the questions, found the answers, weighed and considered and then moved on. So instead of talking about it they did it. That's what separates them from the rest. So if you don't like things about yourself and you want to be better, than I say do it.

Yes it would be great if we all wanted to improve ourselves and acted on it as well, but most do not. So pick one and go forth my friend.

For decades I tried, and still do daily, to be a better person. It is between me myself and I. Some day perhaps then I will also like myself. In the meantime I am who I am, what people perceive in me if different from what I see. So I try to let it be and continue my mission without also being a doormat to the world. Does that make sense?

well in my opnion being yourself also means being true to yourself which includes improving yourself if you see fit...
i see being yourself as the abiltity to be comfortable enough in yourself to be relaxed in yourself enough to do with yourself that which you think is fit for yourself and not care about other peoples opnion and be relaxed in who you are enough to be open to change and that change could include improving yourself or pushing yourself to find out and challange who you are... and evolve on the journey we call life...
