Yeah I don't think that hotels want to voluntarily turn away business

I used to work at a hotel and yes, when we say we're booked, we really are. HOWEVER.... if there is a big event going on in the area, there are occassions when a hotel will tell you they're booked but they are actually holding a couple of rooms for last minute travelers who are needing a room and are willing to spend a little more money for it (because all the other rooms in town are taken). Not good business practice, but it does happen. But for the most part, if a hotel tells you they're booked, they probably are. Hope this helps.

yeah, probably. they want people staying in thir hotel so they probably aren't too happy about having to tell you they're booked. just look for another hotel!

I usually say: "Are you just saying that cause I'm black?" After the clerk stutters a denial, you usually get the room. It's kinda funny cause - I'm white!
