If a search warrant was obtained, it is not an illegal search. You also asked if it was an illegal seizure, but never said that anything was seized. It's not possible to answer the seizure part of the question without knowing more details. You said the officers used a, "strong chemical/odor coming from s. side of home" for probable cause to obtain warrant" but then go on to say the officers never stated that in the warrant. If it wasn't stated in the warrant, then they didn't use it to get the warrant. Evidently they used other information for the warrant that you're either unaware of or didn't post here. There is no obligation on the part of the police to inform the renter of any of this information if they don't want to. The fact that the renter found out about the smell two days later in the media means nothing more than the police simply didn't tell the renter - and you said it wasn't in the warrant anyway, so I really don't know what you're getting at. I don't know if this is the answer you're looking for or not but if you're only wanting to know if it was an unlawful search, that answer is easy: a search conducted pursuant to a search warrant is not unlawful. You may choose to question the truth of the information given to the judge to obtain the warrant, but that's a different issue.

Im a staff nurse and when I had money taken from my locker the ward sister called the police - they took me in the sisters office and took a statement - I thought this was a bit over the top at the time but looking back it was a good idea coz who ever stole my money was there at the time so i guess it acts as a deterent. x

Does your company have any CCTV?, Check on company policy with your HR dept. You should report it to the police to get a crime number but that is as far as they will go.
If your company has a history of theft, do not leave anything lying around that is of any value.

I would, they should. Theft is theft after all, and by not calling the police the company is saying that it's alright for some thieving toe rag to be stealing from you.

Call the police yourself (you'd need to do this anyway to claim on the insurance). Mention the other thefts, and hopefully they will investigate.
But don't hold your breath.
