I like Abreva... it works fast. I also take L-Lysine several times a day when I have a cold sore because it reduces the amount of acid in your system. My dentist told me to mix up 4 oz liquid benadryl and 4 oz of milk of magnesia and use it as a mouth rinse. It's gross, but it really helps. Also, don't drink any pop.

The quickest way to get rid of the cold sore is to leave it alone and let it dry up on its own..There are a few home remedies you can try before you go and buy the expensive stuff...i know this will sound gross but trust me it works..Get yourself a Qtip and clean your ears then take the earwax and place it over the sore carefully...Make sure you dont rub too hard or you will pop the sore...And let it sit there for a while...It acts as a barrier and detoxs the chemicals your sore is dispusing..Repeat over the next two days and it should be dry and well on its way to recovery..Another thing you can use and wouldnt hurt is to go and get a visit from your DR..and tell them they are recurring and ask for a prescription for Zovirax...That is the best out there and will clear it up from first notice in 3 days...Just make sure you keep the area dry and clean...Dont lick the sore it only makes it sore and dont pick at it...For pain use baby orajel on it..It wipes the pain for a while as a temporary fix...Hope this was helpful...another thing that dries it up is whiskey..It will burn at first then you will notice it dries up fast and then gone...

Oral herpes viral medication Cold sores are a member of the herpes family just like the STD, chicken pox, and shingles. It is called Herpes simplex 2 -actually a non-genital herpes. The best treatment is an oral pill taken when you first feel the tingle sensation before it actually appears. Remember that this is a virus that remains dormant in your body until triggered to come out. Fevers bring them out( explains why cold sores are also called fever blisters) Stress is another trigger-so stay mellow You are just treating the symptom because the virus itself will never leave your body.

Ask your Dermatologist for a prescription to Valtrex. Take it when you feel one coming on and it will either not develop or be small and heal quickly. Also if your prone to cold sores; take extra Vitamin C and use a lip balm with a sun screen every day. Good luck. Nothing pretty about a cold sore.

All cold sores are Herpes Simplex 1. Be sure to never engage in kissing or oral sex when you feel the onset of symptoms or while you have a cold sore.

Try Caramex to dry up the sore. You can find it in the drug store, over the counter.
