well registry is really imporatant go here for the very best program ive used in while http://www.acelogix.com/
now its trial but its worth it it has a bazillion usefull functions then go here http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
use that to increase your bandwith on the net
then at last (if basic maintenance, defrag scan disk, plus the ace utilities aint good enuff) try a ram defragger (optimizes your ram) go here http://www.amsn.ro/
now onto the ram the ram optimizer will tell you how much ram you are using, looking for 50% or less while inactive (0-5% CPUtime) if your more than that you need more ram 512 is good enuff upgrade for almost all (sept gamers and video junks) this is the best company worth the money http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Kingston%20Technology%20512MB%20Module%20Computer%20RAM:1990725083;_ylt=AkfZ1YYu65sGNRbilc1YR6EbFt0A;_ylu=X3oDMTBic2hxMGNhBGx0AzQEc2VjA3Ny?clink=dmps/ram/ctx=mid:5,pid:1990725083,pdid:5,pos:1,spc:14489115,date:20060808,srch:kw,x:

Do this, it works for me: Click on START, then RUN... then type msconfig, press OK and go to the STARTUP tab. I bet all those items are checked. Uncheck those you don't know (all of them, if you want), press APPLY then OK, then reboot. It's gonna run faster this time with less load on it!

All you'll be doing is NOT run the program/s on startup. That you can do whenever you need them only.

How much RAM do you have with all that software? I have heard complaints that Norton antivirus slowed it down, but I have not experienced it. Try increasing virtual memory.

Do you have antispyware software?
If you don't then download Ad-aware Se Professional 1.06
You can download freeware from:
http://www.lavasoft.com
Maybe your computer is infected with spyware and adaware and maybe that's the reason why is running slowly

You may have too many antivirus programs on...each one of them checks every page you go to.
