Because they think it's funny. If they did not think it's funny they will not call a joke.

if they made the joke up then they are not real good comedian's as good comedians wont laugh at there own joke.If they are telling a joke that somebody else told them then they may still think the joke is funny so there for they laugh at the punch line.

I guess they don't believe in the quality of their jokes. so to induce laughter in others they initiate it themselves. otherwise it can be often seen that a person who are laughter kings maintain their poise and their seriousness while cracking their jokes because they are sure at the end people are going to laugh on their own and onto that their seriousness adds spice to the joke.

Because they are never really their own jokes. They heard it somewhere before from someone else and just because they are now the ones re-telling it...doesn't make it any less funny.

As the crowded lift descended, Mrs. Silverman became increasingly furious with her husband, who was delighted to be pressed against a gorgeous young blonde woman.
As the lif stopped at the main floor, the blonde suddenly
whirled, slapped Mr. Silverman, and said, "That will teach you to pinch!"
Bewildered, Mr. Silverman was halfway to the parking lot with his wife when he choked, "I ... I didn't pinch that girl."
