Why is the word bra singular and panties plural?

Let's think about this, I really don't know and really don't even care about it. It sounds really cool this way and it sticks so lets keep the trend and keep calling them what there meant to to be a called. Now it's time for some booze.

Bra is short for "brazier" which is borrowed from the French "bráziére", which I don't know if it's singular or plural.

Panties is technically not plural. It is short for "pantyhose", and the 'pluralization' is the diminutive, sort of like calling your friend Kim "Kimmers".

This has been asked so many times here. It's because "bra" is short for "brassiere" and panties are a diminutive of "pants", which is short for "pantaloons".

Although it would have made more sense to do it the other way.

You also don't say "a pair of bras", but you do say a pair of jeans/pants/slacks/trousers.

because bra contains 2 **** so its plural in contents.
Panties contain one **** so its singular in contents.

since women are confused and confusing creatures, to add to thier repitoier, some one deided to mix it up and make everything
opposite .

so the thing that has plural contents will be singluar
the thing that has singular contents will be plural

Because "Panties" perform 1 function for 2 seperate body areas.
They cover the vagina & anus. Thus (2) Panties.
Although there are 2 breasts they are 1 type body part/area.
It works for me.

i c in wat way u mean it. its true i never thought of it before. we should say wear ur panty not wear ur panties. the bra bit i dont know but its true a bra have two cups not one.
