I am 3 months pregnant, and last month at this time I got, what I considered to be a head cold. I also suffer from allergies and have always been on a few medications, which now of course I can not take. Luckily though, I have NOT had any problems with my allergies, it was almost as if they dissappeared. Now last month, I started sneezing, and it turned into a full blown head cold and lasted only 3 days. This month, exactly ONE month to the day later it started again. Is this common? or am I just an exception.
For the record, I am taking my vitamins, I have been asked that a bunch of times, well if you take your vitamins you shouldnt get anything!! LOL, someone help! :) Thanks in advance.

Head colds are very common during pregnancy. Your body is going through so many changes expect to get some kind of sickness off and on while you are pregnant. Taking your prenatal vitamins everyday and drinking lots of fluid such as water and juices significantly reduces your chances of coming down with some kind of sickness during pregnancy. Even though you are taking your vitamins everyday your still very likely to come down with some kind of illness that will wear you out for a few days. Everyone wants to give you their opinion whose been there and done that regardless if they are right or not. They will think they are. Good luck sweetie and enjoy your pregnancy while you can. Its the most beautiful thing you will ever experience. kenziebuchanan@hotmail.com if you have any more questions sweetie.

It's normal to get more colds and head colds during pregnancy due to lowered immunity. Your immunity goes down during pregnancy so that your body, which views a fetus as a foreign object, doesn't reject the fetus. You may want to ask your doctor if you can take Claritin (I take the 24-hour, 10 mg tablet). I have allergies as well, and my OB said I can continue the Claritin (as well as Singulair, for my asthma and allergies). I hope you feel better soon.

I believe it is completely normal to get colds early in pregnancy. I personally have been very congested, but it is now easing up at 14 weeks. Also, two close friends of mine had colds early on in both of their pregnancies. I read that your immune system gets slightly depressed when you are first pregnant so it is easier to catch viruses. Hope you feel better soon!

yes, it is. I am sorry to tell you that you will not see a reduction in this for a long time. Pregnant women also get nose bleeds in the last trimester, and they come along with severe pressure and allergies. HAHA your pregnant, but hang in there, you will be the happiest woman in the world after it is all over.

Congestion is normal. I think it has something to do with extra blood volume?
