You need to stay far away from chemical antibiotics, in my opinion, except as a last resort. I assume you feel the same or you wouldn't have asked this question. As a matter of course, children given antibiotics for ear infection can be expected to get another infection within 1 to 3 months.

Topically, I would recommend ear drops. You can buy oil specific for this at most natural food stores. They are usually called Mullein and Garlic oil drops. It is a carrier oil (usually almond) with mullein and garlic infused in it. The mullein is wonderful for pain and inflammation and the garlic is a topical antibiotic. If you can't find these, put 30 drops of Goldenseal tincture and 30 drops of Myrrh tincture into 1 Tablespoon of almond oil.

Wash hands; lie or sit down; tilt head to bring ear uppermost; pull earlobe to open ear canal; insert 3 to 4 drops. Remain in same position for 2 minutes. Repeat several times daily, especially at night.

May I also suggest ear candling? These are also available at natural food stores & they can give you instructions for using. They require the help of another person. They can remove pus and water that may have accumulated in the ear and are perfectly safe and painless.

Also apply pure essential oil of Lavender to the outside of the ear nearest where it feels painful or swollen. Usually that is in front of the ear and often on the gland right below the ear. This alleviates the pain and swelling.

Internally, take 4 dropperfuls of extract of Echinacea root and one dropperful of Goldenseal root extract. Repeat in one hour. After this, take one dropper of Echinacea every four hours. Take the Goldenseal 3x a day for 10 days.

You would also do well to take 3 grams (3000 mg.) or more of vitamin C. I like Ester-C because it won't upset your stomach or cause diarrhea, even in large doses.

Hot foot baths divert blood from the head and reduce pain. A few drops of tea tree oil or white thyme oil in the water will help open sinuses and kill some bacteria. Afterward, wipe the bottoms of your feet with a clove of garlic cut in half. The garlic is a natural antibiotic and can be absorbed through the skin.

I'd get a second opinion ( i really do question some vets motives sometimes) £400 is a lot to be spending every few months and you'd think an intense course of antibiotics would surely clear it up? Make sure to keep the ear very clean and clear of any foreign bodies etc, so as not to worsen the problem. Like someone else said, a raw food diet could possibly clear up her allergies and mean she can come off the steroids. Ear infections are also a symptom of allergies, so if the allergies go, the infection could clear up. Sorry i can't be of much help, but the best advice i'd give ou is to get a second opinon. Hope it clears up!

Are you also having memory loss? This is the third time in the past 25 min that you asked this question.
Go to the doctor, and get medicine for it. I have had problems with inner ear infections all of my life. You need some major antibiotics. If you don't want to get medical help, try colloidal silver. You can take this orally, and topically.

Gosh, I don't think you'll find any purely natural remedies. My daughter had a problem with this and the best cure was strong antibiotics. If it's really giving you some jip, honestly just get the antibiotics, they won't harm you in the short term. I've got secondary cancer and have antibiotics every time I get the slightest infection of any sort! Penicillin - the greatest medical achievement in history.

I suggest trying Shaklee's truly natural GLA Complex and Optiflora.

Optiflora's two-product system uses new technology to protect beneficial microflora during the rigors of shipping, storage, and the acidic journey through your stomach. Other products claim live microflora at the time of manufacture. Shaklee guarantees the delivery of live (500 million) microflora to your intestines.

This two-product system includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora) + Probiotic (FOS...food source for microflora).

Treats the cause not just the symptom.

GLA Complex for the pain and inflammation. Key ingredients are: GLA, vitamin E, gamma linolenic acid, linoleic acid, sunflower seed, borage seed oil, d-alpha tocopherol. The borage oil contains a highly potent natural concentration of GLA in an easily absorbed form.

Hope this helps and best wishes.
