Raja Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga is one of the four major Yogic paths of Hinduism, the others being Karma yoga, Jnana yoga and Bhakti yoga.
Raja Yoga involves psycho-physical meditational techniques which attain experiences of the truth and finally achieve liberation, described in Hindu thought as moksha. (liberation from the cycle of rebirth). Raja yoga is also known as Ashtanga Yoga. The term Ashtanga means eight limbs, thus Ashtanga Yoga refers to the eight limbs of yoga. It is the classical Indian system of Hindu philosophy and practice (composed by Patanjali perhaps ca. 200 BCE)

With great depth in the harmony of body, mind and spirit. This takes time and training to achieve so one can not simply give you a step by step method. If your interest is achieving a good meditation practice, I suggest beginning with yoga and advancing in that art.

I like to dim the lights in my room and enjoy the complete silence. My thoughts are allowed to roam freely through my mind and I gain perspective in areas that sometimes have me feeling distraught. The power of peace and quiet are lost on some. My daughters always want some type of noise such as the radio or television or just their voices. It drives them crazy when I demand my silence for a little while, but it keeps me sane.

Clear your mind of thoughts. If a thought comes in, observe that it came in and then let go of it. Seek to have no thoughts for some period of time. That is meditation.

At first it was hard, and at times it still is. You find a quiet peaceful, serene place in your mind and you go there. It's a rejuvenation for your mind, body, spirit. I do it twice a day.
