No, you don't know what might be lurking within those waters...

I would say no...I live in Highland, which is located on the Hudson river, about midway up, and I have been told all my life not to swim in the Hudson. Not only is it very polluted water. ( about 3 or 4 years ago there was a huge issue involving pcb's) but the fish are nasty. some are poisonous and then there are pretty large eels. do your self a favor and do not swim in the Hudson, find one of the many nicer bodies of water in New York State.

It depends. Up the river into upstate NY and CT it is quite beautiful and I believe people swim there. Down by NYC though, there are many large ships and currents and I believe it is quite dangerous... besides being not so clean, though they've cleaned it up a lot.

No I would think the pollution would be very unsafe for humans.

I would say no because you don't know what is, or has, been put in the water.
